English below! Of je nou mee komt jammen of alleen wilt genieten van de sfeer. Iedereen is welkom bij Poppodium Phoenix! Musici van alle niveaus, genres en leeftijden stappen op ons podium om te experimenteren, te verbinden en vooral te genieten. Ook hebben wij iedere week een nieuwe sessieleider.

Op zondag 17 mei hebben we een speciale Sunday Jamsession gepland staan! Dan staat er namelijk een heuse jamsessie band op het podium van Poppodium Phoenix. Onder leiding van Jiroh Matulessy brengen zij de sessie in beweging. Weet jij al welk nummer je mee wilt spelen?

Met Matthijs Geerts op keys, Dirk de Nijs op drums, Filip Schrijver op gitaar en Jiroh Matulessy op bas belooft het een gezellige jam te worden met hoogstaande muzikale klanken. Maar uiteraard zijn alle niveaus welkom!

Als sessieleider zorgt Jiroh Matulessy ervoor dat iedere muzikant zijn/haar moment in de spotlights kan pakken. Al op jonge leeftijd wist Jiroh dat muziek zijn roeping was. Hij begon ooit op djembe, daarna cello, maar zijn grote liefde is toch echt de gitaar. Met een grote passie voor zowel Ierse muziek als jazz, pop en wereldmuziek heeft Jiroh een breed repertoire. Ook de fusion jazz is één van Jirohs grote liefdes, waarbij hij geïnspireerd wordt door artiesten als Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, John Zorn en The Brecker Brothers.

Tegenwoordig brengt Jiroh zijn diverse muzikale achtergrond samen in een expressieve mix van jazz fusion en authentieke Ierse volksmuziek en wereldmuziek. Hierbij creëert hij een experimentele en persoonlijke sound.

Hoe doe je mee?

Je kunt jezelf tijdens de jamsessie melden bij de sessieleider die je graag het podium op helpt! Speel jij het liefst een cover of ga je voor een freestyle? De sessieleider brengt je graag in contact met andere muzikanten. Uiteraard mag je een eigen instrument meenemen, maar je kunt ook gebruik maken van ons scala aan instrumenten. Zo hebben wij diverse piano’s, keyboards, microfoons, gitaren, basgitaren, drumstellen, percussie en zelfs een contrabas voor je klaarstaan!

Whether you want to jam with us or just enjoy the atmosphere. Everyone is welcome at Poppodium Phoenix! Musicians of all levels, genres and ages step onto our stage to experiment, connect and above all enjoy. We also have a new session leader every week.

On Sunday, May 17, we’ve got a special Sunday Jam Session planned! A full jam session band will be taking over the stage at Poppodium Phoenix. Led by Jiroh Matulessy, they’ll get the session moving right away. Have you already decided which song you’d like to join in on?

With Matthijs Geerts on keys, Dirk de Nijs on drums, Filip Schrijver on guitar, and Jiroh Matulessy on bass, this promises to be a lively jam filled with high-level musicianship. Of course, musicians of all skill levels are welcome!

As session leader, Jiroh Matulessy makes sure every musician gets their moment in the spotlight. From a young age, Jiroh knew that music was his calling. He started out playing djembe, then moved on to cello, but ultimately found his greatest passion in the guitar. With a deep love for Irish music as well as jazz, pop, and world music, Jiroh has built a broad musical repertoire. Fusion jazz is also one of his greatest passions, drawing inspiration from artists such as Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, John Zorn, and The Brecker Brothers.

Today, Jiroh combines his diverse musical background into an expressive blend of jazz fusion, traditional Irish folk music, and world music influences, creating a personal and experimental sound.

How do you participate?

During the jam session, you can talk to the session leader who will be happy to help you get on stage! Do you prefer to play a cover or will you freestyle? The session leader will get you in touch with other musicians. Of course you can bring your own instrument but you can also use our range of instruments. For example, we have various pianos, keyboards, microphones, guitars, bass guitars, drum kits, percussion and even a double bass ready to be played!
